The Race

So we had the Nike+ race today. Here's what went down...

-Junsi and Yambi arrive; the erm, gentlemen that I exchanged low-fives with were my homies hahahahaha...(This is Saturday night.)
-Dinner was MASARAP: Baby potatoes, Tex-Mex salad, Tess' (our cook) WONDERFUL chicken barbecue and some really fluffy rice...YUM!
-Room 401 = new favorite TV show; Jared Padalecki looks better with some stubble on his chin
-Junsi had a power nap before we watched the movie on star (see next item)
-END OF DAYS! The Governator! "GET DOOOOWN!", some reflections about God and the devil, really strong old lady and great-at-the-time-but-poor-now special effects
-Halo 3 difficulties :(
-Aral (daw) + Ateneo replay
-kuwentuhan about stuff haha
-Nag-Sunday na, gising pa kami
-Yambi, bigay na bigay na tawa don sa experiment namin ni Agas sa mukha ko
-finally went to bed at around 1am (pero nagtetext pa yung dalawa)
-woke up like 2 hours later :(
-I took a bath and woke them up
-Early Halo 3 with Gregorian chant-like music = Yambi: "OH SHIT!" Hahahahahahahaha!
-Yambi tagal sa banyo...bakit kaya?
-Agas = hindi na ligo haha
-Looking for McKinley Hill was a bitch
-LATE KAMI
-At dahil late kami, last kami :(
-Yambi na pagod, hinintay ko, hindi hinintay ni Agas
-Me = Trying to make conversation, Yambi = TRYING TO BREATHE hahahaha!
-Runners passed us by. Haha.
-Lakatan boys!
-Finally caught up inside Heritage Park, saw KB, Rami, Martin and Pierre
-saw Cara and "Alan" in the distance
-"Alan" turned out to JUNSI Hahahahaha!
-instead of running we: had an IAC meeting, talked about basketball and walked...very slowly
-Cara = Blisters (ok lang yan Cara haha)
-The sun wasn't on our side on the way back (literally)
-FINISHED IN 2 HOURS!
-No one took our picture :(
-And my watch stopped :(
-MCDO LIBRE!
-Went to the Nike store on high street to get our finisher's bracelets
-THOSE BRACELETS ARE HARD TO WEAR
-I found my birthday and X-Mas gifts!

And that was that. The great race day of 2008 was highlighted by great food, PAIN AND TIREDNESS and bonding. I'd love to this again but maybe next year na lang haha!

Jack Bauer is Bad Ass.

Jack Bauer is a vampire. And if you're thinking, oh, they've finally jumped the shark with that, let me clarify. He isn't a real blood-sucking, Tom Cruise look alike vamp. No, they haven't gone all supernatural on the show. They just had him bite a guy's neck like...a vampire, to escape torture. Because, you know, his hands were tied.

See, if that was me, I would have already prayed to God to forgive me and peed my pants. Jack Bauer must have learned survival tactics from Dracula.

(And I realize that Day 6 has been over for a while now, but it just started on C/S and I really don't watch 24. But this has me intrigued.)

Looking ahead...

What would the USA men's team look like in 2010 for the World Championships? It's a safe bet that J-Kidd will be off the team by then. Michael Redd might opt to not play too. I think Melo stays, LeBron stays. Wade, Deron, CP3, CB4 and Dwight will still be around. Tay and Booz can be replaced. For the sake of argument, we'll leave Kobe off the team because of...something. Let's say his age. So there would be 7 holdovers. (And those 7 might be the top 7 players in the NBA by then too.) Who would get those last 5 spots?

Top 10 candidates:

1. Greg Oden - Barring anymore injuries, GO should be a lock for this squad. His ascension will be key for Team USA and the Blazers. He turns into the Shaq+Hakeem Super-Dream we all want him to be, no one will be able to stop Team USA.

(A Dwight and Oden frontcourt would be SICK.)

2. Al Jefferson - If he continues to improve, he could reunite with AAU teammate Dwight Howard and the aforementioned Oden to form the scariest big man rotation Team USA has ever seen. Add CB4 to the mix and no one will ever doubt the Americans' big men ever again.

3. Kevin Durant - Here's the thing. KD is already a good NBA player. Judging by the way guys like Bron and Melo have improved on their games since coming to the league is enough justification to believe that Durant will get better. And if he does get better....get the hell out of his way.

4. Caron Butler - I like Caron Butler for the team because he and Melo would be an awesome tag team. No one would dare try anything nasty against team USA.

5. Derrick Rose - When you already have Chris Paul and Deron Williams on the squad, you basically have the point guard spot on lock for the next decade. But seeing how those two play really well next to each other, a third point guard would be great. I nominate Derrick Rose. Why? Why not? Kid's a team player, quick and strong. He's perfect for the team.

6. Danny Granger - The 2009 NBA MVP. (Yeah, I can dream can't I?) Danny's gonna be a great player. You have been warned.

7. Monta Ellis - Because Monta is gonna own the Bay Area for the next couple of years. Says here he's gonna be really, really good.

8. Amare Stoudemire - Beastin'. Hopefully, he'd be confident enough to play again by 2010.

9. Brandon Roy - He was a stud last year. He'll be downright deadly in 2 years. He'd be perfect as Dwyane Wade's back-up.

10. David Lee - A character guy. The Christian Laettner of this team. He hustles harder though. And he's used to egos. Wouldn't mind being the human victory cigar.

Honorable Mentions: OJ Mayo, Mike Beasley, Devin Harris, Rudy Gay, Mike Conley, Jason Maxiell, Rodney Stuckey, Daniel Gibson.

So if I were to make my picks now, I'd add Caron Butler (experience and toughness), Monta Ellis (freak athlete at the 1), Greg Oden (Super-Dream!), Kevin Durant (unstoppable) and Al Jefferson (the next great PF). That would give me Jefferson, Oden, Bosh and Howard as my guys inside, Bron, Melo, Butler and Durant (How tall would that rotation be??) on the wings and a backcourt buffet of Ellis, Wade, Paul and Williams. Rose, Amare and Granger are my alternates.

Shooting? Check. Shot-blocking and rebounding? Check. Freak athletes? Check. Everything else? Check, check and check.

So when Team USA wins the gold at the World Championships and at the 2012 Olympics (where Rose, Stuckey, Mayo and Beasley may crack the line-up), I'll be sittin' pretty knowing I was right. And y'all know my predictions are certified gold.

Bummer

So I sprained my ankle. Again. Haha. Had to bust out the crutches. It's feeling better now, it's been 2 days since I initially sprained it.

So much for training.

Randomness

1.) Earlier today I told my dad that the US team would beat Australia by 30. Guess what the final score was? That's right, 116-85.

The first half, Australia hung around because they decided to poke the Americans in the eye.

So to start the second half, the Americans did the same thing. But with a much bigger finger.

There were hard fouls on Melo, Wade, Paul and the rest, Patrick Mills was impressive and the "boomers" were knocking down their outside shots. Despite that (and the Americans' horrible free throw shooting) the US was ahead by 12 at the end of the half thanks to some timely buckets and staunch interior D.

And then to start the second half, the US were like Optimus Prime against all them Decepticons when he finally showed up on Earth in the Transformers Animated movie.

(Yeah, I went there.)

Anyway, next up, either 'Gentina or Greece in the semis.

U-S-A!

2.) I got some runs in on the smv court today. Things I learned today about my game:
A) I suck at one-on-one.
B) My mid-range game has gone south. It isn't as consistent as before. This is depressing.
C) I think I can still play really good team defense. (Read: I couldn't guard an old man if he was playing with a cane.)
D) At the very least, my three-point shooting isn't as bad as I thought it was. I think.

3.) Classes were suspended today. I wish they'd suspend classes tomorrow too.

4.) I am broke. Also, my head hurts. I haven't done any homework yet.

5.) Patrick and Karlyle, great conversation kanina. Haha.

6.) What am I to do now? Crush Number 2, what do I do about you now?

Crush Number 2, we meet again

Crush Number 2, how do I get you to notice me? Haha. Oy vey.

There is an idea. It's in my head. I'll think about it, but I won't obsess. You know what they say about the best laid plans...

But it's a damn good plan you betcha.

Dog Soldiers

FINALLY SAW DOG SOLDIERS!

Definitely awesome.

Weekend Update with Jeri Favis

Friday:

Gotta say, cramming is not good FUN! That damn Marketing paper...
Bought my comics that day too. I got like 10 of them and that was great. Here's what I got:

Booster Gold # 1,000,000 - Not part of my list but I like Booster. He's doing his thing and no one knows how heroic and brave he's been. He nearly gave up in this issue but he didn't. That's a real hero. Picked this issue up because it was Geoff Johns' last issue or somethin' on the book and it had that Booster and Bats moment that was great.

Ultimate Spider-Man # 124 - "But if I had to guess I'd say it was 'Fett'" Haha. Great moment there.

Invincible Iron Man # 4 - Solid book. Might not drop it after the first arc.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (forgot the issue number) - Continued the Fray story. Color me interested. The last page reveal, that I did not see.

Secret Invasion: Runaways/Young Avengers # 2 - The series has been okay. I like the dynamics between the Runaways. I should really get the first hardcover.

Secret Invasion: Thor # 1 - Liked it. Beta Ray Bill!

Green Lantern Corps # 27 - Liked Luke Ross' art. Patrick Gleason's art isn't really my cup of tea. Can't wait for the next issue.

Captain Britain and MI: 13 # 4 - This series started with a bang and ended with John dying. I like the book, very fresh. "No more speeches," was a great moment.

King-Size Spider-Man Summer Special # 1 - Very long title, very good read. While I bought it because I heard Keith Giffen was contributing, I found his story to be the weakest mainly because it stuck out as the only "dark" story of the bunch. All of the light-hearted, colorful stories were great and just like everybody else, I loved the origin recap.

Secret Invasion # 5 - Bad ass moments from Reed, Agent Brand, Maria Hill, Hawkeye and Captain Marvel. I liked it. The art, I don't think Leinil Yu is suited for a comic with a lot of characters in it because his background drawings aren't all that nice to look at. Can't wait for the conclusion.

Saturday:

Felt the effects of cramming the Marketing paper during class yesterday morning. I couldn't stay awake. Spent some time with Mama and got a free cup of Starbucks to boot!
NU was such a tease racing to that big lead and fooling all of us watching. Damn Edwin Asoro.
Went to mass then went to Rockwell and watched Team USA kick the crap out of Spain. Some notes about the game:

-LeBron. James. Is. UNBELIEVABLE.
-So much for the Gasol brothers...
-Deron Williams and Chris Paul...whoo. I'd take Williams though. Just because I think he is a stone-cold killer. Paul is a superduper point guard too but I like Williams better.
-Tayshaun Prince = scoring option?
-Ricky Rubio! Didn't do much but he looked okay out there.
-Welcome back Dwyane Wade.
-Human Victory Cigar for the game: Michael Redd
-Those Olympic refs are almost as bad as the UAAP refs.
-Kobe when in doberman mode = awesome (defense)
-Kobe when in mamba mode = terrible (offense)
-I think LeBron James will have his best season yet this year. Right now, no one's as good as him (save maybe Wade) and now that he has Mo Williams, the Cavs might just make it back to the finals. I didn't like that they lost Joe Smith though. They need another veteran big and another wing player. Mo and Boobie are great but you can't put them in at the same time because that's a small backcourt.

Sunday:

Had a great lunch in Cafe Juanita. The food was excellent and the dessert was awesome.
The game was great too since we won and Tonino got to score. Makes me wonder talaga if I should've continued playing for Ateneo. Eric Salamat is a machine and Rabeh is playing really well. I don't think they're afraid of anyone at this point. Bring it on.

So that's been my weekend so far. No school tomorrow and Tuesday but I have that couples thing for Fr. Dacanay so that's a bummer. Oh well. Later.

Secret Heroes

What's the point of doing something if no one will know why?

Yeah, you can say God will know. You can say that you'll know. How does that help me?

I do it because of you. For you.

Why does it have to be a secret? Why can't I tell you?

Why can't you know?

Why do I have to wait until "It's about time," and "I know"?

There has to be a place in this world for courage. We can't all be secret heroes.

Writing on a lonely Monday night.

"Did you know that everything she ever does is for you?
So it goes, the story of a broken heart comes true,
It comes true." - Maroon 5, "Story"

Aaww...Haha.

So many moments, wasted.
So many memories, corrupted.
So many smiles have faded.
The power of love is defeated.

Desperate to say your name.
I send a message, it's pretty lame.
Indulge me please, play the game.
My heart is yours, yours to claim.

...and I can't think of anything else haha.

The Other Shoe

This week was alright. I'm now just waiting for the other shoe to drop. I can't have another good week can I?

This probably means something horrible is gonna happen this week.

(Something horrible has already happened though. R.I.P. Bernie Mac - You were great in all 3 Ocean's movies.)

In terms of my life, I'm probably gonna find out I failed one of the many tests I took this past week or Crush Number 2 is gonna break my heart. Argh.

The Awesomeness that is Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica is AWESOME.

You want proof?

President Roslin: "I love you."
Admiral Adama: "It's about time."

:D

And the fake reveal was jaw-dropping. Haha.

An Open Letter to Crush Number 2

Dear Crush Number 2,

...I got nothing.

"The perfect words never crossed my mind because there was nothing in there but you." Indeed.

Monday, August 4, 2008

Again about Crush Number 2

I can't seem to write about anything else besides Crush Number 2. Damn.

Crush Number 2 is a big deal. I really like her. I wish I could take things further but alas. And now I sound like a stalker. Haha. That kinda did sound stalker-ish naman talaga but I'm not stalking. I think. Haha. Basta, point is, I haven't actually had this strong a crush since...her. So this is important.

But the circumstances surrounding Crush Number 2 aren't helping. They aren't ideal nor are they very condusive to my happiness. So that kinda sucks.

I really don't know what to do.

Saturday, August 2, 2008

Tinatamad ako magsulat.

-Ang hassle ng Halo 3 kapag linalaro mo siya on Legendary. The game's mighty difficult to finish on Heroic so you can just imagine what Legendary must be like. Let me help: I took half an hour just to destroy the damn weapons array at the end of The Storm level. Damn Brute with the Fuel Rod Gun. Argh.

-Friday was a good day. Very unexpected turn of events, but much appreciated.

-HELL WEEK. GAH.
