The problem the hero has with saving someone, after he has rescued them, they're not in danger anymore. The hero has done his job and saved the damsel in distress. And she has no need of the hero anymore.
Our hero needs to go save someone else. He cannot go back to someone he has already touched, no matter how much he might want to. Because once the hero is done being a hero, he is nobody anymore. Once the center of her fragile world, now he is nothing more than that person you had one class with back in college. She just waves and moves on, because the world moves on and there are more important things to get to.
And whatever human contact and love the hero cherished from his time with her is nothing but a mere memory anymore. Because when it's over, it's over.
